This position requires an outstanding ability to multitask, excellent communication and telephone skills, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to stay positive, friendly, and calm under pressure as well as being quick on your feet. You must be a self-starter with strong organizational skills and computer proficiency (fast typing skills, ability to learn a new program). Part of this position requires learning about various eye issues and how to triage patients, so you must be comfortable relaying important medical information to doctors, clients, and other staff members.

We are looking for a friendly, detail-oriented, efficient, and driven candidate. We need someone who will strive to provide excellent care to all our patients and clients and work like a well-oiled machine with our team.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Client care -Check clients in and out, assist them over the phone, ensure that clients don’t wait long to be helped, offer service with a smile
- Client communication - Answer incoming calls on a multi-line phone system, check voicemail, email, and texts regularly and reply to all promptly. Must use a professional written and verbal tone in communication. Must handle client confrontation with grace and empathy.
- Maintain medical records - Document all client contact in electronic medical records, set appropriate reminders, give reminder calls when appointments are due, confirm upcoming appointments, maintain notes that are free of spelling, grammatical and calculation errors.
- Triage - Take information from new clients and patients, obtain patient records, and work with other staff members to determine how urgently a patient needs to be seen based on their medical history and symptoms.
- Staff communication - Stay in constant contact with other staff members and doctors via instant messaging. Communicate clearly and promptly.
- Prescription medications - Call in and fill prescriptions. We require our receptionists to be a Veterinary Medication Clerk with the Washington State Department of Health and will assist you in obtaining this license.
- Financial transactions - Process cash, credit/debit, and check transactions, maintain cash box.

About NWAES
We are an AAHA accredited ophthalmology center near Seattle and consist of two locations – Kirkland and Renton (16 miles apart). We have been in practice for over 20 years and currently have 3 board-certified veterinary ophthalmologists. Each location is well-established and has a diverse and robust caseload. We are looking for a team member that will care for their patients and clients in the most professional and caring manner possible.
We have state-of-the-art equipment at both locations including diode endolaser units, Zeiss operating microscopes, phacoemulsification units, slit-lamp biomicroscopes, binocular indirect ophthalmoscopes, direct ophthalmoscopes, Tono-Pen and TonoVet tonometers, gonioscopic lenses, computerized ERG equipment, ocular ultrasound, nitrous oxide cryosurgical units, nerve stimulators, CO2 lasers, end-tidal CO2 monitors, direct & indirect blood pressure monitors, ventilators and sevoflurane anesthesia.
Geographic location
Both hospitals are located near the edges of Lake Washington with just the lake separating us from the city of Seattle. We have incredible access to hiking, biking, water sports, and the mountains all nearby. There is excellent diversity of restaurants, entertainment, and arts and culture including Chihuly Glass & Gardens, the Space Needle, Seattle Arts Museum, and the Seattle Symphony. Kirkland and the surrounding cities have some of the best schools in the country so it is an excellent place to raise a family!

Qualities we are seeking in our technicians are: team-player, positive attitude, excellent technical skills, detail-oriented, good communication skills, professional demeanor, motivated/self-starter, ability to multi-task and adapt to different doctors, hard-working, reliable, and an understanding of the importance of quality client/patient service.
Your responsibilities include those that are standard to a licensed veterinary technician. As a technician you are expected to work closely and communicate well with the doctors and assistants to help manage/delegate patient care efficiently. Also, responsible for patient care in the following capacities: facilitating outpatient treatments, performing laboratory tests, surgery prep and assistance, anesthesia monitoring and recovery, triaging, admitting and discharging patients, and client communication and education. Inventory duties would be completing weekly inventory, ordering drugs and supplies. Maintaining and updating our practice management system.
We offer a competitive hourly wage and an employee discount for personal pets as well as paid CE and paid days to attend. Minimum hourly wage of $28 -$30 an hour but wage will be increased based on several factors, including experience and level of responsibility assigned.

Essential Position Functions:
- Determine animal requirements by conducting examinations and interviews, reviewing care plans and records, completing laboratory tests and studies, and diagnostic imaging.
- Care for patients by taking vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications, drugs, and vaccines, and bandaging and wrapping wounds.
- Support patient examinations and operations by assembling required supplies and instruments, securing and bringing patients to examination rooms, and restraining patients; aids as directed by the veterinarian.
- Provide excellent pet care by applying full knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, pharmacology, specialized equipment usage, and specialized drug administration.
- Obtain and verify medications.
- Ensure that patients have food and water, clean patients' rooms, cages, and equipment; observe patients for clinical signs of disease.
- As directed, fill prescriptions and administer medications, including proper documentation, logging, and security of controlled drugs.
- Maintain a safe, secure, healthy, and humane environment by sterilizing and wrapping instruments, sanitizing and disinfecting holding and operating areas, storing sterile supplies, verifying shelf life, following standards and procedures, and in compliance with applicable legal regulations.
- Maintain medical records by documenting patients’ conditions, reactions, and changes; update the database in an accurate and timely manner.
- Communicate with the pet owner about the status of the patient, as directed by the veterinarian.
- Maintain equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining equipment supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
- Maintain inventory, place orders for needed supplies, verify, and maintain receipts.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional journals.
- Release pets to their owners as directed; ensure that every animal released is clean and properly groomed before their release.
- Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Manager or practice.
Additional Position Functions:
Assignment to the specialty medical areas listed below may require the following additional job functions:
Ophthalmology
- Assist veterinarians with ocular exams.
- Perform and/or assist with diagnostic testing (Schirmer Tear Testing, Tonometry, Ocular Ultrasounds, Electroretinogram testing, etc.).Surgery
- Provide extensive surgical assistance by preparing pets, scrubbing, shaving, acting as a surgical nurse, and operating specific surgical equipment and supplies.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two or more years of experience with veterinary appointments, surgeries, and nursing care for hospitalized and critical patients.
- Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), or the Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician (LVMT) preferred or as required by State.
- May consider an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.
Position Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Knowledge of the preparation, monitoring, and recovery of pets receiving surgery, as well as basic pet nursing.
- Ability to demonstrate and follow correct procedures in catheter placement, phlebotomy, emergency medicine, and digital radiology.
- Understand and limit the potential exposure to bites, scratches, and potential injuries.
- Able to restrain patients according to standard procedures.
- Fill prescriptions and monitor sedation procedures as directed by the veterinarian.
- Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors.
- Display confidence and reassurance when dealing with pets experiencing severe stress, illness, or pain.
- Communicate and approach job duties in a professional and mature manner.
- Must be flexible with scheduling and able to work some weekends and holidays.
- This is a strenuous job that requires a lot of lifting, cleaning, and constant motion.
- Depending on the functional area of assignment, tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation and/or extended periods of time standing and/or walking.
- May include some climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Some tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting or carrying moderately heavy animals (up to 50 pounds).
- Answer phones and perform other duties as needed by the hospital.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Manager or practice.
